CGPA Yarns

Cummulative Grade Point Average. That explains the concept. It is of paramount importance to acknowledge that fact that is concept is the foundation of your existence in the Faculty of Law. The truth to note here is that what makes you a “freshman” is not the number of lectures you attend but the points you accrue to yourself. That is why you will not leave this school the same way you all came in together; with clean slates.

Now let’s get to work. Your GPA comes first before your CGPA because your CGPA is your average performance for all the semesters you have spent. GPA however, is your average for just a semester. At this juncture, pick your pen and paper and let’s write the type of CGPA you want.

It is also important for you to note that you must write special electives of at least twelve units before the end of your studentship. Without writing these special electives which you can take from any department of your choice excluding your faculty, you will not be allowed to graduate. They however do not add to your CGPA.

Here is an example of how to calculate your CGPA

                                             84/18=4.6

This means that your GPA for first semester is 4.5 and that of second semester is 4.6. Therefore, your CGPA would be 81+84/18+18=4.58.

Also, note that A is 5 points, B is 4 points, C is 3 points, D is 2 points, E is 1 point and F is 0 point. As shown above, to get the points, you will multiply your grade point and number of course units. Therefore, if you have an A in EGL 102, getting your points will be 5x3=15.
